A nervous disorder in cattle, caused by the plants Ficus ingens var. ingens and Ficus cordata subsp. salicifolia.
Two outbreaks of neurotoxicoses are reported in cattle browsing on the leaves of Ficus spp. In the first outbreak, three animals died and one became ill. A sheep developed severe nervous signs, including tetanic spasms, when dosed with the leaves of Ficus ingens var. ingens from the toxic camp where the cattle had died. The second outbreak resulted in the death of 12 heifers within 48 h of inge...
متن کاملCoordinated and Efficient Huge Page Management with Ingens
Modern computing is hungry for RAM, with today’s enormous capacities eagerly consumed by diverse workloads. Hardware address translation overheads have grown with memory capacity, motivating hardware manufacturers to provide TLBs with thousands of entries for large page sizes (called huge pages). Operating systems and hypervisors support huge pages with a hodge-podge of best-effort algorithms a...
متن کاملScorpiops ingens sp. n. and an updated key to the Scorpiops from China (Scorpiones, Euscorpiidae, Scorpiopinae)
A new species, Scorpiopsingens sp. n., from Xizang, is described and illustrated. Scorpiopsingens sp. n. is characterized by yellow-brown color, large size (length of adults above 70.0 mm), small and dense granules on tegument, a pair of small median eyes, 17 external trichobothria (5 eb, 2 esb, 2 em, 4 est, 4 et), and 7 or 8 (usually 7) ventral trichobothria in the pedipalp patella, chela with...
متن کاملA New Basis Function Approach to ’t Hooft-Bergknoff-Eller Equations
We analytically and numerically investigate the ’t Hooft-Bergknoff-Eller equations, the lowest order mesonic Light-Front Tamm-Dancoff equations for U(NC) and SU(NC) gauge theories. We find the wavefunction can be well approximated by new basis functions and obtain an analytic formula for the mass of the lightest bound state. Its value is consistent with the precedent results. PACS number(s): 11...
متن کاملReduction of Lactic Acid, Nonprotein Nitrogen, and Ash in Lactic Acid Whey by Candida ingens Culture.
A simple, efficient procedure for removing lactic acid and for reducing nonprotein nitrogen and ash in lactic acid whey has been developed. The procedure consists of culturing Candida ingens on the whey. This organism could assimilate >98% of the lactic acid and approximately 40% of the nonprotein nitrogen. Ash reduction of up to 45% resulted from precipitation of calcium apatite due to the inc...
